CUEBES supports open peer review, allowing researchers to request, submit, and publish reviews of publications.
What is Open Peer Review?
Unlike traditional anonymous peer review, open peer review can include:
- Open identities - Reviewers' names are disclosed
- Open reports - Reviews are published alongside the paper
- Open participation - Anyone can submit a review
Review Types
Open Review
Both the reviewer's identity and review content are public. This encourages constructive, accountable feedback.
Signed Review
The reviewer's identity is revealed to the author but the review may not be public.
Anonymous Review
Traditional blind review where the reviewer's identity is hidden (available for invited reviews only).
Requesting Reviews
As a publication author (Pro tier required):
Step 1: Open Your Publication
Go to your publication and click "Request Reviews".
Step 2: Invite Reviewers
- Search for researchers by expertise
- Enter email addresses directly
- Add an optional personal message
Step 3: Set Review Type
Choose whether reviews should be open, signed, or anonymous.
Step 4: Send Invitations
Invited reviewers receive an email with a link to accept or decline.
Submitting a Review
Accept an Invitation
- Click the link in your invitation email
- Sign in to CUEBES (or create an account)
- Click "Accept" to begin reviewing
Write Your Review
The review form includes:
- Overall recommendation - Accept, Minor Revisions, Major Revisions, Reject
- Ratings - Quality, Clarity, Originality, Significance (1-5 scale)
- Review content - Your detailed feedback
- Strengths - What the paper does well
- Weaknesses - Areas for improvement
- Suggestions - Specific recommendations
- Confidential comments - Notes visible only to the author
Submit Your Review
Click "Submit Review" when complete. You can edit until the author publishes the review.
Recommendation Options
| Recommendation | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Accept | The paper is ready for publication as-is |
| Minor Revisions | Small changes needed, no re-review required |
| Major Revisions | Significant changes needed, should be re-reviewed |
| Reject | The paper is not suitable for publication |
Publishing Reviews
After receiving a review, the author can:
- Publish it - Make the review visible on the publication page
- Keep it private - Only visible to author and reviewer
- Respond - Post a public response to the review

- Be constructive and specific
- Focus on the work, not the authors
- Provide actionable suggestions
- Acknowledge strengths as well as weaknesses
- Respect confidentiality when requested
For Authors
- Respond professionally to criticism
- Consider all feedback, even if you disagree
- Thank reviewers for their time
- Update your paper based on valid concerns
