Using Chats

Send messages, share files, and communicate with your community

This guide covers the practical side of chatting on CUEBES - from sending your first message to using reactions and sharing files.

Sending Messages

Basic Messages

  1. Open a chat in your Cube
  2. Type your message in the input field at the bottom
  3. Press Enter or click Send

Replying to Messages

To reply to a specific message:

  1. Hover over the message you want to reply to
  2. Click the "Reply" button
  3. Type your response
  4. Your message will link back to the original
Tip: Replies help keep conversations organized, especially in busy chats where multiple topics are discussed.

Reactions

Add emoji reactions to messages:

  1. Hover over any message
  2. Click the reaction button (emoji icon)
  3. Select an emoji
  4. Your reaction appears on the message

Reactions are great for:

  • Acknowledging messages without cluttering the chat
  • Quick voting or polling
  • Showing appreciation

Sharing Files and Images

Uploading Files

  1. Click the attachment button (paperclip icon)
  2. Select your file
  3. Add an optional message
  4. Send

Sharing Images

  1. Click the image button or drag and drop
  2. Select your image
  3. Preview if needed
  4. Send

Images display inline in the chat, while other files appear as downloadable attachments.

Read Status

Unread Indicators

  • Unread chats show a badge with the message count
  • Opening a chat marks messages as read
  • Scroll through to catch up on missed messages

Last Read Position

When you return to a chat, you'll see where you left off. The chat tracks your last read position so you can easily find new messages.

Editing and Deleting

Editing Your Messages

You can edit your own messages:

  1. Click on your message
  2. Select "Edit"
  3. Make your changes
  4. Save

Deleting Messages

To delete a message you sent:

  1. Click on your message
  2. Select "Delete"
  3. Confirm deletion
Note: You can only edit or delete your own messages. Cube admins may have additional moderation capabilities.

Chat Notifications

Stay informed about new messages:

  • Unread badges appear on chats with new messages
  • Check your notification settings to control alerts

Best Practices

  • Stay on topic - Use the right chat for your discussion
  • Use replies - Keep threads organized
  • React instead of replying - For simple acknowledgments
  • Be respectful - Follow Cube guidelines and platform rules
